I don’t have a cute title for this one, because this was an outstandingly average tender experience.
We found this place while driving to the grocery store, so we decided to give it a shot. I went with the chicken tender dinner (surprise surprise), and the missus went with a big breakfast platter. I got a bowl of chicken noodle soup with my order, and it was faaaaaantastic. That good “way too yellow to be healthy” broth and big chunks of chicken. Absolutely killer.
Then the main course arrived, chicken tenders, ranch, and *gasp* crinkle cut french fries. I had to nibble on a fry before I dug into the tenders, and I was not disappointed at all. Thick, perfectly balanced amount of crispiness, and a nice sprinkling of salt. I don’t rate fries, but these were very, very good.
The tenders however, notsomuch. It’s a Coney Island, so it’s to be expected that they’re going to be middle of the road, at best, but these were right down at the bottom with National Coney Island’s tenders. Dry, poorly breaded, and lacking any sort of seasoning. And of course, would they be Coney tenders if they weren’t served at 500 degrees.
The ranch, however, was not half bad. Well seasoned and flavorful, lacking in the cheap tang that National’s and their “garbage ranch” is just chock full of, but it was water thin, unfortunately. If it were a little bit thicker, it would have faired better.
All in all, an underwhelming experience, but not terrible. The fries and soup were fantastic and the ranch was damn close to being downright good.
Final Verdict: I’d skip the tenders and go for their breakfast foods instead. Absolutely fantastic.
